SCARAB: Innovative Services Supporting User and Terminal Mobility
نویسندگان
چکیده
The paper presents the authors’ experience in designing and implementing secure smart card and agent-based telecommunication services supporting user mobility and service personalization. The work described here has been performed as part of the EU ACTS SCARAB project and is based on a service architecture that has been defined by the SCARAB partners. User mobility is achieved both by using smart cards and by supporting mobile terminals based on a 3Com Palm computer connected to a GSM phone, in addition to fixed PC-based terminals. An on-line travel agency service, that can be used to buy travel tickets, has been implemented as a case study. This paper focuses mainly on the description of the SCARAB service architecture and of the on-line travel agency demonstrative service and on its implementation for the mobile terminal, which is the most critical one, because of the severe resource limitations of

CORBA Based Design and Implementation of Universal Personal Computing
Universal personal computing (UPC) supports nomadic computing at user mobility and at terminal mobility levels in a userfriendly way. That is, a user can access computing resources anywhere on the Internet, using any available mobile or stationary terminal attached to any subnet supporting UPC services. These services are provided via agents and enable a personalized computing environment that ...
متن کاملPolicy-Driven Binding to Information Resources in Mobility-Enabled Scenarios
The widespread diffusion of mobile computing and of portable devices with wireless connectivity identifies new challenging scenarios for the Internet provisioning of information services. The possible mobility of users, terminals, and even middleware/service components requires solutions to handle properly the links to information resources in response to the mobile entity migration. Binding de...
متن کاملContext-Aware Middleware for Resource Management in the Wireless Internet
The provisioning of Web services over the wireless Internet introduces novel challenging issues for service design and implementation: from user/terminal mobility during service execution, to wide heterogeneity of portable access devices and unpredictable modifications in accessible resources. In this scenario, there are frequent provision-time changes in the context, defined as the logical set...
متن کاملEvent Dissemination Service for Pervasive Computing
Event-based computing is a generic enabler for the next generation mobile services and applications that need to meet user requirements irrespective of time and location. The event paradigm and publish/subscribe systems allow clients to asynchronously receive information that matches their interests. We outline an event architecture for mobile computing that addresses two key requirements: term...
متن کاملAgent Support for Personal Mobility
T he advent of mobile telecommunication systems has brought the term user mobility to next-generation telecommunication network research and design. User mobility implies two things: terminal mobility—the ability of the network to locate a mobile terminal—and personal mobility— the ability of users to access defined services from any terminal in the network, while maintaining their personal env...
